ColBar LifeScience Ltd. (ColBar) has developed a proprietary collagen cross-linking technology, which is based on the non-enzymatic glycation process that naturally occurs in the body. This GlymatrixT cross linking technology, the culmination of years of research into glycation as a cross linking mechanism, utilizes a natural, sugar-based, cross-linking agent (d-ribose), much like it is done in the human body.

When injected into the tissue in its molecular or fibrillar state, collagen degrades quickly. For its ‘in situ’ life to be extended collagen must be cross-linked. To date, a variety of chemical and physical techniques have been employed to control the properties of collagen-based products for reconstructive and aesthetic medicine. Yet, such collagen-based products have often had limited success, mainly due to insufficient control over the biodurability and shape of these products in vivo. |
The Glymatrix™ technology represents a breakthrough in the design of collagen-based bio-matrices through its ability to specifically engineer biomaterial products with long-lasting effects, enhanced stability and properties similar to those of natural collagen found in the body. It is ideally suited to reconstructive and aesthetic medicine because it enables biological materials to be programmed to perform in a manner appropriate to their intended application.
The sophisticated Glymatrix™ production process is very versatile. In the first stage highly purified type I porcine collagen is manufactured. In the second one the bulk matrix is produced, utilizing the Glymatrix™ cross linking technology. In the third and final stage the bulk matrix is tailored to the specific product application. |

The Glymatrix™ technology uniqueness lies in its versatility and ability to control a multitude of important collagen matrix properties, including physico-chemical properties and biological properties. Several preclinical and clinical trials have confirmed the unique nature of this technology, which stems from its ability to accurately imitate processes that occur within the body. Thus, the Glymatrix™ technology enables specific tailoring of collagen matrices for a wide variety of clinical application in many therapeutic areas, like aesthetics, bone & cartilage among others. |
